Chives restaurant is located in an old historic construction located in the Vickery village in Suamico that dates back to 1749. At the front of the restaurant is a wide porch with awnings hanging over the windows and Adirondack chairs with small patio tables situated along the width of the building. As you walk in there is a small bar and a chalk board with hand written specials of the day. The décor of the restaurant keeps to the theme of the building's age with hanging dried flowers, ceiling fans, an old pot belly stove, and a large wine cooler with stacks of wine bottles displayed on assorted wine racks. Bay Patio

It was an early evening on a Tuesday and there were only two ladies dining. The waitress asked if I had reservations, when I replied that I didn't she proceeded to sit me at a table. I was waiting for the big rush at any moment or I plan I would see tables with reserved signs on them but neither appeared while the evening. I brought in a .00 coupon and a photo copy of a list of their summer specials that were advertised on their website and not to expire for someone else five days. She, at first, seemed to be unaware of the specials and when I handed her the list she told me in a very classic attitude that no we don't have this or this or this, we only have the Cobb salad and the cod, which are both on their regular menu. I ordered off their menu from their large plates section the classic Steak Fritte for .95 and a glass of cabernet. For drinking water they serve Italian natural spring water - Aqua Pana and she also brought out a small loaf of homemade French bread with whipped butter and chives. The bread was fine, but the butter was difficult to spread since it had just been taken out of the cooler.

The Steak Fritte is a DelMonico Ribeye steak served with a garlic butter herb sauce on top with chive fries and an organic mixed greens salad to which I chose the herb vinaigrette dressing. The entree was served on a narrow rectangular platter. The steak was served on top of the fries and the salad sat next to the steak. I felt that the platter was too small for the portions of the food and it was difficult to maneuver everything. The chive fries were cut like shoestring potatoes and were well seasoned and tasty, the steak was large and very tender but nothing amazing but I enjoyed the dressing on the salad most for it was very light and refreshing. The assistance was a huge dissatisfaction and was very minimal. I was not asked if I would like someone else wine, and she did not poor more water for me. Her attitude and tone of voice was uppity and a petite condescending. As I was leaving the bartender was very kindly and said goodnight and asked if my food was good. If only the waitress had the same buyer assistance and attitude as the bartender then I would have had a best dining experience.
